A diverse workforce is essential to the success of Kansas City Power & Light. We are committed to treating the differing points of view and perspectives of our employees with the highest respect. On top of having a diverse workforce, KCP&L is also committed to inclusion. At KCP&L inclusion means making sure all employees are treated as valuable contributors and have the opportunity to:

  • Develop personal and business skills and knowledge
  • Build meaningful relationships with other employees
Our strategy of diversity and inclusion allows our workforce to reflect the growing diversity of our community, which is beyond race and gender.

Some of our diversity & inclusion initiatives include:

  • Creating a Healthy Work Environment: An online workshop that enhances awareness and cultural sensitivity in the workplace. This course is required for employees.
  • Recruitment Partnerships: Our recruitment partnerships allow us to do a diversity-focused search for new employees. Some of our partners are The Urban League, The NAACP, Guadalupe Center, The Full Employment Council, Women's Employment Network and KC Chinese Network.
  • Internships: Our partnership with The Full Employment Council (FEC) offers employment opportunities to urban youth. Through the FEC's professional track, interns are eligible to work at KCP&L for three consecutive summers. Internships at KCP&L are also offered through the INROADS program, which "trains and develops talented minority youth for professional careers in business and industry."
  • Diversity Retention Efforts: At KCP&L it is important not only to have a diverse workforce, but also to help them feel like a valuable component to the business. That is why we've created several retention efforts including mentoring, employee resource groups, diversity training and community philanthropy.

    We also have an active Supplier Diversity Program.
